No wonder so many educators and others are lamenting the lack of knowledge our children exhibit.

Me: My mom used to dress me up for Pioneer Day.
Lynette: Were you embarassed?
Me: (thinking about the cape and elfboots I wore to church in my teens) No–
Lynette: (interupting) But that’s right, you were IN the pioneer days.
Me (and the other teachers): *die*
Teacher next to me in an aside to me: Then I must be from the Dark Ages!

Oh! Elfboots! I loved mine!
The pioneer dresses I made for my older daughters are now being worn by my younger ones. Pioneer women were always cool to me, they seemed to be able to do anything, and they certainly didn’t seem to depend on men who are never around in the mormon stories.

Now I’m confused. There’s a woman named Lynette who has a cool blog, I think it’s Zelophedad’s daughters or a reasonable facsimile of Zelophedad. Is that who you’re talking about or are you someone completely unrelated?
My Sarah thinks the 70’s is ancient. The weird thing is that to me the 70’s are today, hip, modern. I’m stuck back there. And sometimes she will say, “Oh, mother, that is so 90’s.” And I just look at her and wonder what goes on in that head. I wonder what they will say about this decade (2000-2009), what they will call it. The 00’s?

Sorry, annegb, I don’t mean to confuse anyone. “Lynette” is the psuedonym I’ve given to this particular girl for the purposes of blogging. In the name of protecting the innocent and all that. If you go to the Valiant Femmes post entiteld “Meet the Girls” you’ll find a list of the girls and a general description of them. (Looking more closely at this I see I forgot to categorize it as a Valiant Femmes post. I’ll fix that.)
